2023 Betfair Chase Betting Favourites

Bravemansgame – 10/11

Favourite for the Betfair Chase is the eight-year-old gelding trained by Paul Nicholls, one of the quickest horses in training Bravemansgame. His career record to date from eighteen runs is nine victories, four second-place finishes and three third-place finishes.

The horse most recently ran at Wetherby at the beginning of the month coming runner-up in a Grade (2) Chase 1.75 lengths back of winner Gentlemansgame. This run seems to be an indication that the horse is getting closer to a victory again following a disappointing third in the Punchestown Gold Cup at the end of April.

The horse has tremendous ability though, only losing out at Cheltenham back in March when the horse was runner-up in the 2023 Gold Cup to winner Galopin Des Champs following an intense race on the hill. The pair battled hard in combat over the last of the 22 fences, but it was the 7-5 favourite, a year younger at seven, who prevailed.

Following the race, the team were beaming with pride for their horse’s performance jockey Harry Cobden said, “He’s run an absolute blinder, but he’s just been beaten by a very good horse.” Trainer Nicholls when speaking about the jockey said, “He couldn’t have done more and got a great ride by Harry” and vowed to bring the horse back for another crack next year “He’ll be back next year when he’ll be another year stronger, and we’ll have another go.”

Protektorat– 15/8

The second Favourite for the Betfair Chase is the 2022 winner of this same race, the eight-year-old trained by Dan Skelton and son of Saint Des Saints and Protektion, Prottektorat.  The horse has a career record of six victories, six runner-up finishes and two third places from his twenty-one outings on track so far in his career.

The horse’s most recent outing on track was at Cheltenham back in March where he finished a disappointing fifth from a field of thirteen horses in the Cheltenham Gold Cup coming 15.5 lengths back of winner Galopin Des Champs.

If you fancy Protektorat to return to winning ways, he can be gotten at 15/8 for the Betfair Chase.

Royale Pagaille– 7/1

The third favourite is the nine-year-old trained by Venetia Williams and the son of Blue Bresil and Royale Cazoumaille who has a career record of five victories, six runner-up finishes and two third from twenty-four outings, Royale Pagaille.

The horse’s last outing came in a disappointing showing at Fairyhouse back in April in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National after being in touch with the leaders early, the horse had not been fluent at the 7th and following bumping at the nineth he fell at the fifteenth fence making it six outings without a victory.

If you think Royale Pagaille can turn the tide and win the Betfair Chase he can be gotten at 7/1.

Corach Rambler – 10/1

The fourth favourite is trained by. Lucinda Rusell the nine-year-old gelding  Corach Rambler is the son of Jeremy and Heart N Hope His career record to date is seven wins and a third finish from fourteen outings.

The horse most recently had a disappointing return to the track at Kelso he finished fifth from a field of six after returning to the track following a 196-day break. Before that run the horse was in flying form winning The Aintree Grand National back in April along with the Cheltenham Ultima Handicap Chase beating second-placed Fastorslow by a neck to land the Ultima Handicap Chase for the second year in a row

On his day this horse is a different class so 10/1 could be a very shrewd price for punters.
