Aidan O’Brien On Course For 10th 2000 Guineas With Magna Grecia

Magna Grecia has been made the 3/1 favourite with us for the Group 1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The 3-year old Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes Group 1 winner at Doncaster has been shortened from 5/1.

The absence of Too Darn Hot is disappointing, but with Quorto, Calyx, Mohaather and Persian King absent as well it leaves the 2000 looking wide open.

Aidan O’Brien is attempting to win his tenth 2000 Guineas and he has a strong hand if the betting is anything to go by. He trains the favourite Magna Grecia and the second favourite, Ten Sovereigns.

The Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes Group 1 champion was last seen in September and was favourite in the betting after Too Darn Hot was confirmed a non-runner.

However Magna Grecia has cruised to the head of the market now with Ten Sovereigns drifting from 5/2 out to 9/2.

Royal Marine has shortened from 8/1 into 6/1 to give Saeed bin Suroor success in the race with the bay colt finishing behind Skardu at Newmarket in the Craven Stakes a few weeks ago. Skardu is 6/1 from 9/1.

Hugo Palmer’s runner Set Piece was slashed from 50/1 into 20/1 a few weeks ago and has now been cut again into 16/1. Dewhurst Stakes runner-up Advertise has been backed from 12/1 into 8/1 with Frankie Dettori in the saddle, who last won the race in 2016 onboard Galileo Gold.
