Aintree Virtual Grand National FAQs

The Aintree Grand National was due to take place today but due to the current circumstances it will be virtual.

Here’s all you need to know.

What is the Virtual Grand National?
The 173rd annual running of the Aintree Grand National has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. In its place, a computer-generated version of the race will be broadcast at 5.15pm on Saturday 4th April, with all profits donated to charity.

Can I watch the Virtual Grand National?
The race can be streamed on your BoyleSports mobile app or on our desktop website. ITV will also broadcast the race at 5.15pm, with coverage starting at 5pm.

Can I Bet on The Race?
BoyleSports will accept bets with a maximum stake £/€10 win or £/€10 each-way per selection.

What happens to profits from the race?
BoyleSports will donate all profits made on the Virtual Grand National to the Mater Foundation.

Can Bonus Funds be used to bet on the Virtual Grand National?
In short, no. Bonus funds cannot be used to bet on the Virtual Grand National.

How is the winner chosen?
The result of this race is determined via an independent random number generator.

Information about the horses is fed into the software which helps determine the probability of their potential finishing positions based on form and past performance.

The machine has a record at predicting how the Grand National will turn out – it predicted Rathvinden would be first and Tiger Roll Second last year. They finished third and first respectively.
