Varian’s American Artist To Brush Off Rivals In Cambridgeshire

Newmarket stages another fascinating card on Saturday afternoon with the class of the two-year-olds in Group 1 company joined by the lottery that is the Cambridgeshire with a field of 35 going to post for the £160,000 prize.

Varian Is Back
Roger Varian had a couple of frustrating weeks in the middle part of the season but the trainer is currently enjoying a much better run of things and…

his American Artist is a horse that makes appeal in the Cambridgeshire at a best priced 33/1 with BoyleSports.

The four-year-old got off to a busy start to the year but had a break between May and running at Sandown a couple of weeks ago. His form hasn’t been extremely flattering to date but his return to action was a decent one and if he can improve for that like so many of his stable companions appear to do, American Artist can hopefully prove that he is unexposed off a mark of 90.

Vibes Are Good
Vibes win you nothing but all the talk around Lady Aurelia seems to be quite bullish. That is despite the fact that she was at her least impressive when we saw her in competitive action as she won at Deauville.

Her preparation has been much more settled since then and the confidence certainly seems to be there so while 4/6 is probably a shade short for many punters, she should be able to just deny Queen Kindly and Roly Poly.

Queen Kindly certainly looks to be a high class daughter of Frankel and it would be fantastic for Richard Fahey and his team if she was to go on and notch up this Group 1 but she may just have to settle for minor honours on this occasion.

Mehmas To Sign Off With A Win
Ger Lyons seemed hopeful that Medicine Jack would outrun his odds in the Middle Park Stakes today when he spoke earlier in the week and it’ll be interesting to see how he does fare out but with Blue Point and Mehmas it looks a very hot race.

Blue Point has long been favourite to reverse the form with Mehmas but after the somewhat surprising announcement that Mehmas would be retiring to stud next season…

it would be no surprise if he signed off with a win in this Group 1.

The colt has been busy this season but his form solid and although he was no match for Churchill the last day and it appeared he didn’t quite see out the seven-furlongs at the Curragh, he drops back to six-furlongs here and has no Churchill to contend with so 9/2 looks a good price about him giving Frankie another big race success at Newmarket.

Recommended Bets:
Lady Aurelia (4/6) – 2.55 Newmarket
Mehmas (9/2) – 3.30 Newmarket
American Artist (33/1) – 4.10 Newmarket
