Arsenal vs Tottenham Preview
Arsenal’s Form
Mikel Arteta deserves plaudits for the job he has done since becoming Arsenal’s manager back in 2019. In his time at the Emirates he has brought the side from a fifth-place finish in 21/22 to a second-place finish and a title challenge for much of the 22/23 season.
However, Arsenal eventually fell away in the title race which was not helped by an injury to William Saliba. The club could be criticised for abandoning their campaigns in the other competitions to try and maintain their Premier League push.
The Gunners went bit in the transfer window spending roughly £208.6m on Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice. This squad is considerably stronger than last season with the only real departure being Granit Xhaka. It remains to be seen whether they’ve strengthened enough to challenge properly on all fronts.
Arsenal have started the season strong. They won the season curtain raiser, the Community Shield, against Manchester City on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
Arteta’s side are in fourth place heading into this matchday following a record of four wins and one draw from their opening five games. They have the seventh-best attack from their league games with nine scored and they have the joint second-best defence with four goals conceded.
The Gunners will be coming into this one following their 4-0 Champions League win against PSV on Wednesday and a win here can make it four wins in a row.
Tottenham’s Form
Ange Postecoglou is the new man in the dugout at Tottenham following his appointment as manager on the 6th of June 2023 on a four-year contract. Previously he enjoyed considerable success with Celtic where he won five trophies in two seasons with the club.
Tottenham had an interesting transfer window where they lost first-teamers Lucas Moura, Harry Winks and their talismanic captain Harry Kane who signed for Bayern Munich for £100m. However, they’ve made some shrewd additions with the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario who all look like key first-team signings.
Tottenham currently occupy second place following a record of four wins and one draw from their opening five games. They have the third-best attack in the league this season with thirteen goals scored and they have the joint third-best defence with five goals conceded.
They will be coming into this one following their 2-1 victory against Sheffield United last weekend where the scoreline pretty much perfectly matched the XG stats. Spurs created an XG of 2.1 and conceded an XG of 0.7.

Arsenal v Tottenham Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Tottenham
Both sides are coming into this fixture with identical league records, four wins and one draw. Tottenham (2nd) are currently ahead of Arsenal (4th) only due to their superior goal difference.
Arsenal had a midweek home match against PSV winning 4-0 while Tottenham, due to their absence from European football, had a week of preparation for this one. Arsenal have won three of the last five against Tottenham too coming into the game.
However, I think Tottenham are a different animal under Ange and their fresher legs give them every chance of getting a result in this one.
Best Bet: Tottenham or Draw @ 23/20
