Asher-Smith Sprints Into Second Favourite To Scoop Sports Personality Award

BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Outright Betting

British sprint sensation Dina Asher-Smith is now breathing down the neck of favourite Ben Stokes in the race to be crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The Londoner arrived back on home soil this week as the first British athlete to win three medals at a single World Championships, a haul which included gold in the 200m.

She has now been backed into 7/2 second favourite from 12/1 over the past week to be decorated with the coveted Sports Personality trophy in December’s bash in Birmingham.

That puts her right in the mix with cricketer Ben Stokes, whose heroics at the crease during the tied Ashes series saw him plummet into a red hot odds-on shot at 1/5.

But support for the England all-rounder has gone cold as Asher-Smith’s return from Doha coincided with newspaper reports appearing to depict Stokes in an angry confrontation with his girlfriend.

The pair have denied the confrontation was serious, but he has now drifted to 4/11, with Rugby World Cup participants Owen Farrell and Alun Wyn Jones given 20/1 chances.
