Back Phil To Upset The Disko

Odds-on favourite Senewalk failed to live up to expectations at Punchestown on Saturday but Sunday plays host to another number of short priced favourites and they’re a difficult group to oppose.

Fitting Winner
Perspective was put on the sport recently with the life changing injuries sustained by Freddy Tylicki and hopefully there can be a very slight boost for the family on Sunday when First To Boogie lines up in the penultimate race of the day.

This win will naturally be little consolation for recent events but First To Boogie is trained by Tylicki’s sister, Madeleine, who would have been assisted by her partner and former amateur Andrew Kinirons in recent weeks and the eight-year-old has run well enough on his last two runs to suggest he can oblige.

Bumper Double
It is another weekend into the National Hunt season that Willie Mullins doesn’t have a bumper runner and while you won’t pay for too many Christmas presents by doing the cross card double in Ireland, Gordon Elliott should oblige.

Samcro goes to Punchestown with a massive reputation having cost £335,000 after winning a four-year-old point-to-point maiden for Colin Bowe

Monbeg Worldwide meanwhile is another promising four-year-old who will bid to back up his Roscommon win at Cork and should do just that.

Phil in the Disko
For what it is worth of the favourites in the three graded races, Nichols Canyon should win the Morgiana for the second year in a row.

He clearly comes to hand quickly and remains the only horse to beat Faugheen which is a fair claim. Nichols Canyon is only six and should account for Jer’s Girl who may be more effective over slightly further going forward.

Identity Thief should continue his winning sequence over fences and looks an exciting novice chaser for Henry de Bromhead but if one of the short priced ones are to be overturned, maybe it will be Disko.

Disko has always been highly regarded and bolted up here last month at Punchestown but A Toi Phil is just given the nod.

He obviously wasn’t right on his final run last season but he made a good start over fences at Down Royal and gets a tentative selection to make it two from two on a difficult day for punting.
