BAFTAs Shake Up Oscars Betting as Olivia Colman Shortens For Best Actress

There has been some interesting movement in the Oscars betting following the results of the BAFTA’s on Sunday evening, BoyleSports can reveal.

The Favourite was heavily tipped to take home the BAFTA for Best Film but was overlooked as Roma won over the periodic-drama, however it did receive the BAFTA for Best British Film. The Best Film snub has seen its Oscar odds drift to 10/1 from 8/1, whist Roma has tightened its grip at the head of the betting seeing odds a short as 1/4, having been 4/7.

Olivia Colman has been cut into 4/1 from 6/1 after she won Best Actress at the BAFTAs,

…with Glenn Close drifting out to 1/5 from 1/8 for the Oscar after a burst of support poured in for The Favourite’s Colman.

The market most shaken and stirred by the BAFTA’s is Best Supporting Actress as Rachel Weisz seen her odds slashed from 12/1 to 7/1 when she received the BAFTA in the same category. Current favourite, Regina King failed to receive a BAFTA nomination for her role in ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ and has been eased to 1/2 from 4/9.

It remains business as usual in the Best Actor category, with Rami Malek scooping Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, shortening further as the red-hot favourite for the Oscar in the same category to 1/4 from 4/9, and in the Best Director category Roma’s Alfonso Cuaron is now an unstoppable 1/20 from 1/14 for his second Best Director Academy Award after his BAFTA win.

Green Door’s Mahershala Ali has also seen his odds shortened drastically to 1/14 from 1/6 for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor after receiving BAFTA recognition for his role as Don Shirley.
