Micheal Martin

Bets Pile In For Next Fianna Fáil Leader To Replace Micheál Martin

There has been a new burst of support for Paul McAuliffe to be the candidate who eventually replaces Micheál Martin as Fianna Fáil leader.

The former Lord Mayor of Dublin, who is now TD for Dublin North-West, is 12/1 to become the new leader of his party after his odds tumbled from a high of 20/1.

Barry Cowen is another TD who is attracting the support as punters have been busy backing potential candidates to replace Taoiseach Micheál Martin.

The Fianna Fáil leader removed Cowen as agriculture minister over a drink-driving case from 2016 but some speculative bets placed last month have resulted in the TD for Laois–Offaly being cut into 25/1 from 66/1 to become the next leader of Fianna Fáil.

Martin is being backed to be replaced as leader as early as this year with the odds on him moving on in 2021 into just 7/4 from 4/1.

Dublin Bay South TD Jim O’Callaghan remains favourite in the market at 11/8.

This market is getting increasingly busy since the country went back into Level 5 so perhaps the public want to see a change soon.
