Susie Sapphire became the first bitch since 1999 to win the Derby last year and with three females lining up in this year’s final, it’s easy to see why punters are fancying it to happen again.
Ahead of the action at Shelbourne Park, BoyleSports have cut the chances of a bitch winning the top prize of €125,000 into 9/4 from 4/1.
Crafty Kokoro, Maries Wedding and Droopys Nice One make up half the field, so the chances are very strong that the title can be won by one of them.
The fastest time clocked in this year’s derby was the 29.13 by Coolavanny Hoffa and while he hasn’t made the final, some punters are optimistic that Pestana’s track record of 28.99 for the 550 yards can be broken, with those odds clipped into 16/1 from 20/1 in the latest betting.
BoyleSports have also chalked up some match bets with Callaway Pro Am 8/11 to get the better of Born Warrior.
Crafty Kokoro is 4/6 to finish in front of Ballymac Finn, while Maries Wedding is 1/2 to get the better of Droopys Nice One.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “The countdown is on until the tape goes up on the 2022 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby final, with a bitch fancied to win the €125,000.
“It’s now 9/4 from 4/1 that either Crafty Kokoro, Maries Wedding or Droopys Nice One win the title and it’s also 16/1 from 20/1 for the track record to be broken in the final with 28.99 the time to beat.
“I don’t think it will happen, but I very much think a bitch can win the derby again!”
