The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old went off second favourite behind stablemate Chacun Pour Soi, but a mistake two from home put pay to the latter’s chances, allowing Daryl Jacob’s mount to score by 11 lengths to runner-up Captain Guinness.

The winner has since been cut into 7/1 from 20/1 by BoyleSports for the Champion Chase in March,

…although it’s another stablemate in Energumene who is now an even stronger favourite to land the race for a second successive year as he was clipped into 4/5 from 10/11 when rival Edwardstone (11/4 from 5/2) unseated his rider in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton.

Blue Lord’s victory was part of a spectacular six-timer for the Closutton trainer at Leopardstown with Facile Vega remaining an even money shot for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle after extending his unbeaten record to six, while Beginners’ Chase winner Dysart Dynamo is now 6/1 from 12/1 for the Arkle.
