The Peter Cronin trained Trinity Junior won the opening semi-final in a decent time of 29.53 with his odds now at 3/1 (cut from 16/1). Last year’s English Greyhound Derby champion Romeo Magico failed to qualify.
The final heat was won by the Patrick Guilfoyle trained Scaglietti (4/1 from 20/1) in a time of 29.66. He led down the back straight and showed huge pace to go on and win by two lengths to Droopys Nice One (8/1). Joint favourites Ballymac Marino and Callaway Pro Am missed out on a place in the final.
Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:
“Wow. What a final six we have in the 2023 BoyleSports Champion Stakes this Saturday at HQ. I’m really looking forward to seeing who will be crowned the champion and perhaps we might see the winner go on to win the big one in September!”
