The draw for the 2022 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby was held at Shelbourne Park on Monday morning with 156 entries competing for the top prize of €125,000.

There are 26 heats in the first round with 13 heats this Friday and 13 heats on Saturday. There are some mouth-watering heats to look forward to as expected, including last year’s runner-up Singalong Sally in heat 25 facing joint antepost favourite and kennelmate, Ballinabola Ed.
The outright betting currently rates the Pat Buckley-trained Ballinbola Ed and the Michael J O’Donovan-trained Coolavanny Hoffa as joint 12/1 favourites.
Other major contenders attracting steady outright support include Vincenzo and Twoinarow who are both 16/1 and Born Warrior who is 25/1 from 33/1 after winning the BoyleSports Champion Plate. BoyleSports Champion Stakes winner One Time Only is also 25/1 from 33/1.

The draw for the second round will take place after racing on Saturday evening in the Oaks Suite at Shelbourne Park and will be conducted by Racing Manager Michael Dempsey and BoyleSports PR Executive Sarah Kinsella.
The first-round draw wasn’t the only thing getting greyhound enthusiasts excited on Monday morning though as news broke that the semi-finals and final of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby are going to be broadcast live on Virgin Media 2.
Ivan Yates has been unveiled as the host for the two live broadcasts alongside well-known greyhound racing analyst Ian Fortune.
The BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby, held at Shelbourne Park, is the most prestigious greyhound racing competition in the country and is considered one of the biggest events in the international greyhound calendar.
