Brolly Supported To Reign The Republic

Following numerous bets across the country on Wednesday morning, including a bet of €200 at 16/1, we have had to slash the odds of Joe Brolly following Michael D Higgins as President Of Ireland.

The controversial Sunday Game GAA pundit is now priced at 10/1 to make Áras An Uachtaráin his new home after Michael D Higgins’ term ends.

Our traders have had no choice but to clip the price into 10/1 as a result of what is a very unusual gamble at this time of the year with no presidential election scheduled.

However we have to be cautious and believe that someone may well know a little bit more than we do.

RTÉ presenter Miriam O’Callaghan currently heads the betting at 9/2 with MEP Mairead McGuinness next in the betting at 11/2.

Fergus Finlay is next in the betting at 7/1 with the current president of the Jean Monnet Foundation for Europe, Pat Cox, next at 8/1.

Outsiders include current Taoiseach Enda Kenny at 33/1 with former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern available at 100/1. Senator David Norris can be backed at 66/1 alongside previous Presidential candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon who will be running for the third time if she decides to stand as a candidate.
