Captain Duffy Shortens To Score Again Against Danes

Punters are beginning to get behind the idea of Republic of Ireland upsetting the odds and seeing off Denmark in Monday evening’s final Group D qualifier for Euro 2020.

The Irish warmed up with a 3-1 victory over New Zealand on Thursday night, but it will be a much-changed starting XI for the crucial clash against the Danes with an automatic place at next summer’s European Championships up for grabs.

Only a victory will do for McCarthy’s men but BoyleSports trimmed them into 9/4 from 5/2 on the eve of the match with support starting to increase that they can pull off a famous victory.

Shane Duffy, who has been handed the captain’s armband in the absence of Everton’s Seamus Coleman, has been cut into 7/1 from 8/1 to find the net having headed in a late equaliser when the sides met in Copenhagen in June.

Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick is the most likely goalscorer for the Republic of Ireland at 5/2, while Sean Maguire is 11/4 from 4/1 to score anytime after his first senior international goal stood out as the pick of the goals in the friendly against New Zealand.

We’ve cut Ireland’s chances just slightly over the weekend with just a glimpse of confidence that they can get the job done.

Rarely do we see a centre back so popular in the goalscorer betting, but Shane Duffy is attracting just as many bets as David McGoldrick in the most likely scorer stakes.
