Caravaggio To Create A Masterpiece In July Cup

There’s no shortage of action this Saturday and as competitive as it is, there is a treble, albeit at relatively short prices, that stands out and is worth sticking to for the day.

For a €20 stake it will pay just over €100. Not bad for an hour and a half.

Leg One
Caravaggio may have been a great painter and his equine namesake is certainly a great racehorse. Bookmakers look like they are going to want to take on the three-year-old in a competitive July Cup but this unbeaten record is going nowhere. that could see him blitz the field in the July Cup.

Not everything Aidan O’Brien says always proves to be the case, horses can make liars out of anyone, but Caravaggio has just turned up day after day and got the job done and looks like he’ll continue to do so.

How many more times we might see him remains to be seen, but given that not everything went according to plan in Royal Ascot and he still managed to get the job down by three parts of a length in the end makes it hard to see Harry Angel reverse the form and the older horses give him weight.

Leg Two
Brother Bear returns to action for the first time since carrying high hopes into the Coventry Stakes for Jessica Harrington and although he didn’t pick up the prize that day, he lost little in defeat, going down by just over half a length and probably losing that distance with greenness and drifting to the left.

In the Anglesey Stakes he takes on five previous winners at a track where he is a course and distance winner and this looks a fairly straightforward opportunity to return to winning ways. Theobald probably ranks as the biggest danger as he did impress in a Leopardstown maiden for Jim Bolger and could be open to more improvement but judging by how green he was at Royal Ascot, so too could Brother Bear and…

this should be all one way traffic for him.

Leg Three
The last leg looks the most straightforward in the betting and on the form.

Enable has to win the Irish Oaks.

Her stable companion Coronet can be expected to run a big race and almost anything Aidan O’Brien runs in these Classics warrant respect, but Enable is a cut above and should still be improving on what will be just her fifth outing.

Enable really impressed at Chester although at the time the post race review was probably more about Alluringly disappointing, but at Epsom she enhanced the look of that form with Alluringly 11-lengths back.

Her professionalism at Epsom in pretty extraordinary conditions was admirable but the way she opened up and quickly put five lengths between herself and Rhododendron was incredible and we can expect a similarly emphatic display at HQ shortly before 6pm.

For what it’s worth Coronet looks the solid each-way play in the race but all angles lead to a John Gosden 1-2 with Enable leading home Coronet.
