Coneygree’s The Horse That Sets The Standard

Reflecting back on Tycoon Prince’s run on Sunday, when he finished third at Navan in the G3 At The Races ‘For Auction’ Novice Hurdle, was obviously a bit disappointing, not a lot showed up at home.

Tycoon Prince
We’ll give him an easy week or ten days to freshen him up but it’s definitely disappointing, he never travelled like he can. We’ll just have to put a line through it and look forward to the next race.

For me, going across the top of the track it didn’t look like he was happy. He’s a much better horse than that though. He’s a good horse though the Royal Bond meeting could come a bit close now. But we have to move on from his performance on Sunday, and look forward to his next outing.

Don Cossack v Coneygree
I watched Coneygree’s run on Sunday at Sandown, where he beat Seventh Sky and Southfield Theatre, and couldn’t help but be impressed.

It was certainly a performance to take notice of. Coneygree looked good on his return and he was obviously very good in the Gold Cup last year as a novice.

They obviously do a wonderful job with him, he’s a horse that sets the standard.

It’s hard to say how Don Cossack will do against him. It’s also hard to say you’re confident – he’s a Gold Cup winner and we’re not.

For me he’s a very, very good horse. He’s behind Vautour in the Gold Cup betting – he’s 7/1 with BoyleSports whereas Vautour is 4/1, with Don Cossack at 6/1 – but that’s just the way the betting is. By the time the Gold Cup comes around next March a lot of things will have changed by then.

Ayr on Wednesday
I’ve two entries at Ayr on Wednesday. Jon Monash has obviously been disappointing but he looks like he’s well enough handicapped. The other horse looked disappointing in the Bumper at Downpatrick last year, if I got a place I’d be happy.
