Cristiano Ronaldo needs to leave Manchester United after a summer of disruption surrounding his and the club’s future.

That’s according to Red Devils legendary midfielder Paul Ince, who has spoken to BoyleSports following United’s win on Monday against bitter rivals Liverpool.

I’ve felt sorry for Harry Maguire over the last two or three years. As a centre-half, you need protection from the centre midfielders and he’s never had that protection from Scott McTominay and Fred.

Maguire has been made the scapegoat of this Man United team but yet when he plays for England he’s been outstanding. He’ll be disappointed to lose his place, but to be a successful team you have to have competition.

Lisandro Martinez did well because Liverpool didn’t have the big centre-forward playing that Brentford did with Ivan Toney. It’s competition time at Man United and that will only breed success.

Where do you see Antony fitting into the team if he signs?

The likes of Sancho and Rashford are more than capable of performing out wide.

Man United fans need to not get carried away with the result against Liverpool. One good game doesn’t mean that Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are back in-form.

Man United just need to become a consistent team again because at the moment nobody knows which team is going to turn up each week.

If they can get that right, they’ll have a very poignant front-line, especially with Antony who is a top class player and it’d be a great bit of business if they can get him, which I’m sure they will.

Players like Rashford and Sancho need to perform like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs did for so many years. Having six or seven really good games a season doesn’t make them great players.

Ronaldo – what do you think he should do to get the playing time he wants?

Cristiano Ronaldo needs to leave Manchester United – that’s the only option for him.

Ronaldo has to be playing football and he lives for games like Man United vs Liverpool and to be sat on the bench would’ve hurt him.

But you have to praise Erik ten Hag because he was very brave with his decision. He got his team selection and tactics spot on in a game that he had to win.

Leaving Cristiano out of the game was so important because it shows people that there can be life without him and I think he’s been a distraction for everyone at Man United.

Everyone talks about him rather than Man United as a club. Cristiano hasn’t had the desired effect that everyone thought he would and you wouldn’t see Lionel Messi acting the way he has at times.

If he wants to leave then Man United need to let him go and move on.

If Ronaldo was in the Man United dressing room that we had when I was playing with the likes of Roy Keane and Steve Bruce, we wouldn’t be putting up with him and he wouldn’t be getting away with anything.

Also, I don’t think he’d have acted like that with us anyway because he knows he wouldn’t get away with it.
