Curragh Heroine Can Score At York

Two of Ireland’s leading and sometimes under-rated jockeys Seamie Heffernan and Pat Smullen have quite a good book of rides for York’s Ebor Meeting and Smullen will undoubtedly be relishing the prospect of riding Fair Eva on Thursday.

Heffernan meanwhile gets reunited with Found in the feature but is he on the right one? (3.40)

O’Brien’s Oaks Foursome
Aidan O’Brien will saddle four runners in an attempt to win his fourth Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday and it is some team heading over from Ballydoyle.

The 2/1 favourite is Breeders’ Cup Turf winner, Found, Irish Oaks heroine Seventh Heaven is next best at 4/1, while Ribblesdale Stakes winner Even Song is a bigger price at 14/1 and Pretty Perfect the outsider at 33/1.

Seamie Heffernan is unsurprisingly shining in the role of number one jockey in the absence of Ryan Moore but there is a chance that Heffernan will regret getting off his Irish Oaks winner Seventh Heaven in favour of Found.

Classic Crew
All three of Aidan O’Brien’s previous Yorkshire Oaks winners have been three-year-olds and Seventh Heaven may not have landed a blow at Epsom but when her chance was gone Heffernan was sympathetic and she bounced back to win at the Curragh.

It was an impressive performance at Ireland’s HQ and she may need to improve again but there’s nothing to suggest she won’t.

It looks a good spare ride for Colm O’Donoghue.

Turret Rocks (33/1) could run a big race for Jim Bolger with his team seeming to be in better form now than they were earlier in the season, while the consistent Harlequeen (33/1) is another three-year-old who will be close enough. 6/1 shot Endless Time makes the step up to Group One for the first time and that is a move that is warranted and it’ll be interesting to see how she fares out.

Frankel’s Filly
Pat Smullen will become the third jockey to ride Fair Eva on the track as Roger Charlton’s impressive daughter of Frankel looks to extend her unbeaten record in the Lowther Stakes. (2.30)

Fair Eva is 4/1 to win the 1,000 Guineas and her odds of 4/9 reflect the ability we have seen so far.

But for those unwilling to get involved at those odds there is due to be eight runners going to post and Roly Poly makes each-way appeal at 10/1.

Fair Eva sets a very high standard though and it’ll be a pleasure to watch her in full flow.

Musical Drop
Day two at York is a tricky day for punters but one horse that stood out at a price is The Queen’s Light Music in the concluding race of the day.

William Haggas has his team in good order and after campaigning him in good company of late, Light Music is dropped back in class on this occasion and may just be able to run a big race at this level. Maybe one or two of his rivals will prove better handicapped but at around 9/1 he is not to be dismissed.
