Gerwyn Price Goes Sole Favourite For World Darts Title

Gerwyn Price is now the stand-alone favourite for a successful defence of the World Darts Championship after he overcame a plucky opponent on the opening night at the Alexandra Palace.

The World Number One didn’t have it all his own way as underdog Ritchie Edhouse raced into a 1-0 lead with a first-set whitewash. Price struck back to level matters before Edhouse took a 2-0 lead in the third, but six consecutive legs from The Iceman sent him through to the last 32 and a potential showdown with Fallon Sherrock.

Price had started the night as a 4/1 joint favourite in the betting to go all the way alongside three-time World Champion Michael van Gerwen, but despite the early scare…

He was clipped into 7/2 from 4/1, making him the new sole favourite to lift the trophy.

Sherrock will have to overcome both Steve Beaton and Kim Huybrechts to set up a third-round clash with the reigning champion, but she has gone odds-on at 4/5 from even money to come through her first-round match against ‘The Bronzed Adonis’ on Sunday evening.
