Deerjet Sydney Shortens Further To Defend English Greyhound Derby Title

The Irish flag was flying at Towcester stadium on Saturday with Liam Dowling, Graham Holland and Pat Buckley all making the final of the English Greyhound Derby.

County Kerry’s Liam Dowling enjoyed a brilliant night in particular as he qualified two of his fastest stars into the £175,000 final with Ballymac Fairone producing a sensational 29.08 to win the opening semi-final for the trainer.

Fairone was sublime from traps to line beating his kennel companion Ballymac Wild by 1¼ lengths with defending champion Deerjet Sydney another 1½ lengths back in third.

We have cut the Pat Buckley trained Deerjet Sydney into 2/1 from 5/2 favourite before the trap draw has even been made.

One of the biggest movers however is Ballymac Fairone, with his odds now into 5/2 from 8/1 and depending on the trap draw, he could become the ante post favourite come Monday afternoon.

Ballymac Wild is 11/2 from 10/1 with another final added to his impressive CV.

The second semi-final saw Graham Holland’s Newinn Session oblige in 29.33 to win by two lengths to the Patrick Janssens trained Kilara Lion.

The 10/11 favourite Knocknaboul Syd was unlucky in fourth place but Janssens got another one through to the final with Thorn Falcon grabbing third.

Session is a huge mover into 7/2 from a massive 20/1 while Thorn Falcon is 11/2 from 10/1, with his kennel buddy Kilara Lion the 25/1 outsider from 33/1.
