Defending Champion Deerjet Sydney Shortens For English Greyhound Derby

The Irish contingent continue to dominate the betting in the English Greyhound Derby with Deerjet Sydney the new favourite to defend his crown.

Trained by Pat Buckley, Deerjet Sydney made all last week to win by four lengths in a time of 29.29 with Pacemaker Ted in second and new track record holder Bockos Belly a neck back in third place.

Sydney is now the 9/2 favourite from 10/1 after his impressive performance wearing the red jacket.

Pat Buckley and his team enjoyed more success on Saturday night with their 2021 Easter Cup champion Knocknaboul Syd obliging in 29.32 beating the 7/4 joint favourites Thorn Falcon and Roxholme Sheikh. It was a tremendous effort from Syd who has been hammered into the 6/1 second favourite from 16/1 to become the new champion.

The Irish luck didn’t stop there with Kerry man Liam Dowling sending out his exciting Ballymac Fairone in the second heat as the 6/4 favourite. He made all from trap two and is now 5/1 from 16/1 to bring the trophy back to the Kingdom.

His kennelmate Ballymac Wild qualified behind Forest Gold and Unlock Unlock with his odds into 10/1 from 16/1. Unlock Unlock is 12/1 from 25/1 while the pacey Beach Avenue is 14/1 from 16/1 and remains a massive loser in the book.
