Dublin v Roscommon Preview

Dublin’s Form

Dublin entered the 2024 GAA season following a 2023 season which saw them finish runner-up during the league stage of Division 2 of the National Football League with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss from their games against Derry, Louth, Cork, Kildare, Meath, Clare and Limerick. That league finish earned them promotion to Division 1 but more success was to follow with their Division 2 final victory against Derry by a score of 0-11 to 4-06.

Dublin took that form into the Leinster Championship where they won three rounds to reach the final against Louth who they overcame in the final by a 0-15 t0 5-21 scoreline. In the All-Ireland, they won Group 3 with Kildare, Roscommon and Sligo with 2 wins and 1 draw to qualify for the Quarter-Final where they beat Mayo 2-17 to 0-11. They couldn’t be stopped following a 1-17 to 0-13 Semi victory against Monaghan they won the final against Kerry 1-15 to 1-13.

However, Dublin have started the 2024 league campaign slowly with defeats coming 1-14 to 3-09 against Monaghan and a 1-12 to 0-14 defeat to Mayo.

Key Players To Watch

Cormac Costello

The main danger man for Dublin on the two opening weekends of their league campaign was the Whitehall Colmcille Left corner-forward who hit a total of 1-04 (4f) against Derry and 0-4 (3f) against Mayo.

The ultra-consistent forward should be their go-to again come Saturday against Roscommon.

Diarmuid Murtagh

The Rossies right corner forward, who plays his club football with St Faithleachs, is widely considered one of his counties finest footballers in recent memory and backed that up with 0-5 (4f) against Tyrone and 0-1 against Galway.

Dublin v Roscommon Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Dublin 2-14 Roscommon 1-10

Dublin have not had the best of times so far in 2024 following their brilliant 2023 season, but it seems likely only a matter of time before they click into gear this season and a matchup against a Roscommon they usually get the better of.

The Rossies earned their first point of the campaign against Galway last time out and go into this fixture with far less pressure than the Dubs, could that be the exact catalyst they need to shock Dublin?

Dublin should still have far too much about them to be troubled by Roscommon especially at home in Croke Park.

Best Bet: Dublin -5 @ EVS
