Edwin Poots Now Odds-On To Replace Arlene Foster

Stormont’s Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots is the name that is attracting the bulk of support to be the one who replaces Arlene Foster as DUP leader.

Arlene Foster’s time as DUP leader has come to an end as the Northern Ireland First Minister is to step down next month after reports that a significant majority of elected DUP representatives in the Stormont Assembly and House of Commons had signed a letter of no confidence in Foster’s leadership.

Our traders chalked up Edwin Poots at 11/4 to replace Foster but now the former Health Minister has tumbled into 8/11 to become the next First Minister of Northern Ireland.

Jeffrey Donaldson is also coming in for support. The Member of Parliament for the Lagan Valley constituency is Northern Ireland’s longest-serving current MP and has long been considered a potential contender for becoming DUP leader.

The 58-year-old is now the 11/8 second favourite to land the role with those odds as big as 5/1 less than 24 hours ago.

The MP for East Belfast and former Belfast lord mayor Gavin Robinson is out to 11/1 from 5/1 while MLA for South Belfast Christopher Stalford is 12/1 from 16/1.
