Elliott Can Be King In Cork National

Champion jockey Colin Keane can go to Naas with no pressure on his eight rides as he begins to get used to his new status.

The Irish flat season comes to a close at the Kildare track with the November Handicap the feature race and Wonder Laish looks to complete a big race double for Charles Byrnes.

October & November Handicap Double on Cards
Wonder Laish absolutely bolted up at Leopardstown to win the October Handicap last month and after getting a 15lbs hike off the handicapper he runs at Naas on Sunday off a penalty of just 7lbs which effectively leaves him 8lbs well in for this €100,000 contest.

If he was to be running off his current revised rating, Wonder Laish would have to carry 10st3lbs instead of the 9st9lbs he has and the fact that Byrnes opted against using a claimer to take any off that penalty might be a sign of confidence from the shrewd trainer.

All that said, landing two such races in such a short space of time could be difficult for the five-year-old and the more battle hardened Swamp Fox is preferred at a much bigger price.

Joe Murphy’s charge wasn’t disgraced when lining up in the English Cesarewitch and finishing sixth.

So back in lesser company and over 1m6f, he looks to be good value at 10/1. He’s been knocking on the door in big races this summer and he can claim one now before the curtain comes down on the flat season.

Elliott Can Be King In Cork National
Gordon Elliott may have left Del Mar without the lion’s share but Beckford certainly proved that the trainer can compete at any level.

He’s back in more familiar territory on Sunday where the Cork National is the feature in Mallow and King’s Song can go in again.

The seven-year-old won on his first start for Elliott at Punchestown…

..and although the handicapper didn’t miss him with a 16lbs rise, King’s Song has the capability of scoring again.

It’s a competitive race. Ruby on Racing Pulse is significant, A Sizing Network is in super form of late and Whatareudoingtome ran well last time but King’s Song still may be on the right side of the handicapper.

Recommened Bets:
Swamp Fox (10/1) – 3.00 Naas
King’s Song (6/1) – 3.15 Cork
