Erik ten Hag on Borrowed Time? Odds On Sacking Slashed

After another humiliating defeat, it looks like Man United Manager Erik ten Hag could be on borrowed time at Old Trafford.

BoyleSports is betting Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, could be gone by the end of the month after another bad day at the office saw his side get thrashed 3-0 on home turf by Newcastle.

The result saw The Magpies secure their first victory at Old Trafford in over a decade and a place in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup. Newcastle’s win meant that they got revenge for their loss to Man United in the final of the same competition last year.

Erik ten Hag is 7/4 with BoyleSports to be the next Premier League manager to get the boot. As negative results start to pile up, pressure on the Dutchman continues to mount.

As a result of this being The Red Devils’ worst start to a season since 1962-63, BoyleSports has also already started speculating on who his likely successor will be.

Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is the 9/2 favourite to take over in the dugout at Old Trafford. Zidane has only ever coached at Real Madrid, where he had great success in two previous stints before stepping away in 2021.

The second favourite to take over from ten Hag at Man United is current German national team manager Julian Nagelsmann (13/2). Nagelsmann is a name to watch out for as he had plenty of success at both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich before his surprise sacking earlier this year.

Highly regarded Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is the third favourite in the betting at 8/1. The Italian’s success with the Seagulls makes him one of the most coveted coaches in football.

Further out in the betting, you have former Chelsea boss and the widely touted Graham Potter who is a 9/1 shot to take over from ten Hag at Man United.

Middlesbrough boss and former Man United player Michael Carrick is another name to keep an eye out for at 16/1. Carrick is a highly respected figure at Old Trafford given his playing career at the club and having served as both an assistant and caretaker manager.

Other names on the list of possible ten Hag replacements include Italian Antonio Conte, who has been out of a job since leaving Tottenham last season at 14/1, England manager Gareth Southgate (20/1) and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers at 25/1.

An Ole Gunnar Solskjaer return to Old Trafford is also 25/1 while former Manchester United legend, Sky Sports pundit and proud Cork man, Roy Keane, is 80/1.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“It was another dismal display from Manchester United at home last night. Our punters now think ten Hag is on borrowed time and we’re seeing the sack race and the successor market heat up.”
