There will be 15 countries participating in Semi-final 1 (determined by draw). The best 10 countries from Semi-final 1 will qualify for the Grand Final.
Voting: Televoting from participating countries + the pre-qualified countries Germany, France and Italy + Online voting (“Rest of the world”).
How Many Countries Are In Semi-Final 1?
There will be fifteen countries competing in Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2023 on Tuesday Night but only ten can advance to the grand finale the following weekend.
Semi-Final one is considered the tougher of the two heats with both the top two favourites in the outright betting market Sweden (4/5) and Finland (13/8) competing in it.

Finland 2/5 (To Win) 1/750 (To Qualify)
Despite being favourites for the Semi-Final ahead of Sweden, strangely Finland are behind them in the betting for the outright winner of the competition and can be currently gotten at 15/8 for their song Cha Cha Cha sung by Finnish rapper Käärijä.
Finland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest fifty-five times since entering first back in 1961. They won the contest on one occasion in 2006 with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” performed by Lordi. In the 2022 contest, “Jezebel” performed by The Rasmus managed to qualify Finland to the final placing twenty-first.
Sweden 9/4 (To Win) 1/750 (To Qualify)
Despite being only second-favourites for the Semi-Final behind Finland, they’re actually the outright favourites for the competition and can be currently gotten at 4/5 for their song Tattoo with former winner Loreen.
Sweden means business at this year’s contest as they bring back Loreen who won the contest with them for the hit song “Euphoria” back in 2012 which has been arguably one of if not the biggest Eurovision songs to break out into the mainstream in recent history.
This latest song has only been out since March 11th and has already been viewed over 4.5 million times on YouTube as looks to be the main contender for this year’s prize.
Israel 14/1 (To Win) 1/100 (To Qualify)
Israel has been described as one of the biggest unknowns going into the semi-finals, their song Unicorn’ sung by Noa Kirel can be gotten at 20/1. There hasn’t been a single live performance of the song and Noa Kirel did not appear at any of the pre-parties (including the one in her own country).
Israel has made 44 appearances at the finals with their first coming in 1973. They won the event on four occasions 1978, 1979, 1998 and most recently in 2018 with Toy by Netta Barzilai.
Norway 16/1 (To Win) 1/250 (To Qualify)
The fourth favourite in the betting for this Semi-Final is Norway who can be gotten at 18/1 to win the event outright. Norway will be represented by Alessandra with the song “Queen of Kings” at this year’s song contest.
The Norwegians have won the Eurovision three times with the most recent of those victories coming in 2009 courtesy of Alexander Rybak’s hit song “Fairytale”. This is another Scandinavian country with a strong recent track record in the competition with six top-10 finishes over the past 10 years.
Czech Republic 25/1 (To Win) 1/20 (To Qualify)
The fifth favourite in the betting for this Semi-Final is the Czech Republic who can be gotten at 66/1 to win the event outright. The Czech Republic will be represented by Vesna singing “My Sister’s Crown”.
The Czech Republic have made 10 appearances at the finals with their first coming in 2007. They have never won the event with their best finish coming in 2018 when Mikolas Josef sang the song Lie To Me.
Ireland 150/1 (To Win) 7/2 (To Qualify)
The band Wild Youth will represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, England and can be currently gotten at 80/1 to win the event outright.
Ireland is the most successful nation in Eurovision history making 55 appearances at the event since 1965. They have won the event on seven occasions coming first in 1970, 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996.
