Fianna Fáil/Sinn Féin/Greens Backed Into Next Government Favourites

A coalition between Fianna Fáil, Sinn Féin and the Green Party has emerged as the most likely make-up of the next government as the full results of Saturday’s general election are digested.

The final figures put Fianna Fáil as the biggest party on 38 seats including the automatic re-election of the Ceann Comhairle, with Sinn Féin close behind on 37 and Fine Gael back in third on 35.

That has set up a protracted period of negotiations on forming a coalition, which is expected to go on for some time after the Dáil reconvenes next week.

The coalition between the two biggest parties and the Greens was the outcome being backed throughout Monday as results poured in from round the country,

resulting in us making it the 11/4 favourite having been backed in from 12/1 over a 24-hour period.

Fianna Fáil/Sinn Féin coalitions with Independents or the Social Democrats are also in the running at 7/2 apiece, while the chances of a second election are still not being ruled out 9/4.
