Forget Kane, Dele Alli Opened Some Eyes This Week
Where do we start with Chelsea v Man United?
The way that Mourinho has been setting his Manchester United side up against the bigger clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool is very defensive minded and I can see the same happening here. His number one priority is not to lose this game. Under 2.5 goals looks a stand out bet.
Do not under-estimate how tight this game is going to be and backing the Draw at 21/10 is serious value in my opinion. Given what’s at stake and looking at Mourinho’s tactics away from home, a 0-0 or 1-1 would not surprise me in the slightest.
Dele Alli Future England Captain
What an amazing win for Tottenham midweek.
I thought Real Madrid were too open at times and definitely under-estimated Tottenham. They thought they could go to Wembley and overpower them but Tottenham were having none of it.
Dele Alli was the standout on a star-studded pitch. We’ve been hearing rumours of Harry Kane to Real Madrid for a while now but Dele Alli might have just opened a few people eyes with that performance. He showed he can do it on the big stage in the biggest games.
I think he’s a future England captain in the making.
When I captained Republic of Ireland it was one of the proudest moments of my career but sometimes I think too much stock can be put in the captaincy. With Dele Alli, if his teammate, Harry Kane, was captain for the next ten years, I don’t think he’d care as long as he was playing well and scoring goals.
I think Eriksen was excellent and he’s one for us to watch with Republic of Ireland taking on Denmark in the World Cup Playoffs in the coming weeks. He’s on top form and Martin O’Neill will definitely be trying to figure out how to stifle his creativity.
City Are A Champions League Force
What a game between Napoli and Manchester City too. The standard of that game was right up there with the best Champions League games in recent history. Sergio Aguero breaking the clubs all-time goalscoring record just added to an already incredible spectacle.
City are really powering on now. I think it sent out a message to the rest of the teams in the Champions League that Manchester City are a real force to be reckoned with in this competition.
With the way Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been playing this season, I really feel that City and Tottenham are right up there with that level. Only PSG immediately stand out as a level above them.
Roy Keane stated midweek that, “it’s in Manchester City’s DNA to mess things up”. When I look at the personnel at the club, young talent, players who have already played in Champions League semi-finals, a manager who has won the competition multiple times, I think we’re seeing a different Man City. One that is not necessarily linked to the failings of previous years.
