Man City Gambled Into Favourites For FIFA QuaranTeam Tournament

Manchester City are well accustomed to collecting silverware and now they have been backed into favourites to rule the virtual world as the Premier League suspension continues.

With live football in short supply, Leyton Orient have organised a ‘FIFA Ultimate QuaranTeam’ Tournament to help raise money for struggling EFL clubs and charities which will see sides from around the world send a representative into battle on the popular video game.

Teams ranging from Sydney FC to Shamrock Rovers are taking part but it’s a familiar name now leading the betting with Manchester City backed into 6/1 from 8/1 with BoyleSports over the weekend after their player was revealed as pro-gamer Shaun Springette.

Nantes have entered the picture as 7/1 second favourites having bagged a late entry into the competition and their three-time eFIFA World Cup winner Bruce Grannec will be up against Swindon Town midfielder Cameron McGlip in the first round. Sheffield Wednesday are handing the controller to pro-gamer Delee and the Owls are also well fancied for a strong run in the tournament having been backed into 7/1 from 9/1 since the market opened.

Of the sides sending some first-teamers into battle, Crystal Palace are one of the best placed in the faithful hands of Andros Townsend, while Brighton’s Neil Maupay and Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell are both 33/1 shots to steer their Premier League sides to victory.

We weren’t expecting to see the likes of Nantes and Watford near the head of the betting for an outright tournament anytime soon, but those sending professional gamers into bat are clearly attracting all the support.

This tournament has really caught the imagination.

Manchester City’s representative is now the one to beat with a flurry of bets forcing us to cut them into 6/1 from 8/1.
