France comes into this final round of the Six Nations following a 53-10 demolition of England in Twickenham and they know a victory over Wales would give them an outside chance of winning the Six Nations title. Their form in this year’s Championship from the four matches is three wins with their one defeat coming at the hands of Grand Slam contenders Ireland.

Last year’s Grand Slam winners France will be looking to put themselves into Championship contention and put the pressure on Ireland with a win. France are massive favourites for this at 1/33.

WALES’ FORM

Wales come into this match in poor form with three defeats in their first four matches albeit their first victory of the competition came last weekend on a scoreline of 29-17 away to Italy. Wales will be hoping to avoid defeat vs France to ensure they do not come bottom of the Championship and earn the undesired prize of the wooden spoon.

Evidently, not a vintage Wales side but anything can happen in a one-off game of Rugby. They are currently priced at a large 14/1 to pull off a shock on Saturday.

HOW THE TEAMS MATCH UP – FRANCE VS WALES

FRANCE’S ATTACK

Free-flowing France comes into this match-up as arguably the most exciting team in the competition as the top-scorers with 133 points which is eleven points more than fellow title contenders Ireland. Most impressively of all they had their record-winning margin vs England last time out beating them by a mammoth 43 points.

Tournament top-scorer French Full-Back Thomas Ramos is pivotal to their attack with 68 points in the competition so far with three tries. He has 36 points more than the next most prolific scorer in the competition Scotland’s Finn Russell.

WALES DEFENCE

Wales come into this match-up with the joint second-worst defence in the competition with 106 points conceded the same as England and only seventeen less than Italy who have conceded 123 points.

Notably, for Wales, England who shipped 53 points to France entered last weekend’s game with the second-best defence in the competition which isn’t a good omen for Wales. This could prove to be a tough day at the office for the Welsh defence.

FRANCE’S DEFENCE

While potent going forward France leaves them open at the back with 87 tournament points conceded which is an average of 21.75 points per game. Last weekend marked an improvement with only 10 points conceded vs a toothless England side.

Could this have been a result of their domination or have they tightened up things at the back? It’s certainly impressive that they were able to maintain their concentration in defence last weekend anyway.

WALES ATTACK

Last weekend Wales was able to accumulate their largest points tally of the tournament vs Italy in their 29-15 away victory. This meant that 51% or 29/56 tournament points had come in that match.

Improving signs for Wales or just papering over cracks? I’d argue the latter considering Italy have conceded an average of 30.75 points per game during the Championship. Full-Back Liam Williams with two tournament tries will be their main threat going forward

Prediction: France 35-10 Wales

France are imperious going forward and improving in defence while Wales’s chances look hopeless on both accounts. Expect another comprehensive French victory.
