Frank Lampard Goes Second Favourite For Newcastle Job

Paulo Fonseca remains the favourite to be named next Newcastle United manager, but he has competition according to the betting patterns in the 24 hours since Steve Bruce left the club.

The former Roma manager is currently looking for work having been replaced by Jose Mourinho at the end of last season and came close to joining Tottenham before the collapse of negotiations in the summer. With talks believed to be under way with the new owners at Newcastle, Fonseca had been as short as 1/3 for the hot seat within hours of Bruce’s exit on Wednesday, but support for other candidates has seen his odds eased to 10/11.

Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is the biggest market mover so far, falling into 9/2 second favourite in the betting from 20/1 overnight

…while Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has also been backed down from 20/1 to move into contention at 6/1.

That makes Martinez a co-third favourite alongside Eddie Howe and Lucien Favre, but a lack of support for Premier League switches for Rafa Benitez or Brendan Rodgers have seen both eased to 33/1 from 25/1.
