Galway Races 2017 Day 5 Betting Tips – Niall Cronin
Whiskey Sour was rather unheralded coming into this Galway Festival but by this evening he could be making his way back to Closutton as the winner of two €100,000 handicaps.
Willie’s Week
Tonight Declan McDonogh takes over from owner Luke McMahon’s son, Aubrey, who had a life changing evening on the four-year-old on Monday night and although some have expressed concern about him dropping back to a mile and a half, it shouldn’t be forgotten that he was in fact a two-year-old winner over seven-furlongs at this meeting so he doesn’t lack toe and the form of his win on Monday night was given a major boost as Swamp Fox ran a blinder to just be denied by a neck in the Galway Hurdle.
Whiskey Sour is rather unoriginal but maybe can be doubled up with Profitable at 7/2.
Another Mullins runner to take a bit of interest in is Digeanta who is 5/1 for the finale. The champion trainer has booked Pat Smullen for the favourite, Renneti, but Danny Sheehy’s valuable 7lbs claim means that the former Irish Cesarewitch winner is getting weight all around off his rivals and he didn’t run a bad race here.
The smaller field will suit him and the young jockey is full of confidence at the moment.
Recommended Bets:
Whiskey Sour (7/2) – 6.50 Galway
Digeanta (5/1) – 8.25 Galway
