Galway Races 2017 Day 7 Betting Tips – Niall Cronin

The marathon week of the Galway Races ends on Sunday and those that were on the mark already this week can end on a high but don’t be surprised if there is an upset in the opening race.

Cusack Can Be The Chief
With form figures of P and 0 for his last two runs, Chief Of Panama isn’t a stand out selection in the opening race on the final day at Galway but this certainly isn’t the strongest handicap hurdle to be run this week and Chief Of Panama has the big plus of handling the ground.

The nine-year-old was a winner on good ground back in June of last year but in the past he has been a winner three times with ground that was yielding or worse. It is certainly going to be worse at Galway on Sunday but off a mark in and around his level…

hopefully he can run well at a price.

Mullins Lighting It Up
Willie Mullins could well end this Galway Festival by winning four of the seven feature races, with just two different horses and all on the flat. It has been some week for the champion National Hunt trainer who has shown yet again that he is well capable of taking big scalps on the level when he wants to and Riven Light can defy his penalty to win again.

The Thurles maiden hurdle winner never reached the dizzy heights that we thought he might over flights but Mullins admitted on Tuesday that he has a nice programme of flat races mapped out for him and you’d imagine after his 12lbs hike that he will now be in pattern class next.

Riven Light is 5lbs well in for Sunday’s race and despite having top weight and dropping back in trip…

he looks difficult to oppose although the draw isn’t ideal.

Russell On The Raid Again
When Davy Russell teams up with Pat Kelly, you are always on the watch and although a likely favourite for the second race on Sunday, Dawn Raider is the one to keep faith with.

The five-year-old fits the profile of Kelly’s horses in that they seem to improve with time and Dawn Raider looked like the penny had well and truly dropped when winning at Killarney last time and there can be more to come from this lad in the near future…

starting with today and possibly leading on to a nice pot at Listowel next month.

Recommended Bets:
Chief Of Panama (33/1) – 2.15 Galway
Dawn Raider (9/2) – 2.45 Galway
Riven Light (11/4) – 3.55 Galway
