Garry Monk Installed As Favourite For Newcastle Job
Garry Monk is the early favourite to return to Premier League management at Newcastle United after it was confirmed on Monday that Rafa Benitez would be leaving the club.
The Spaniard spent three years in the St James’ Park hotseat, but the Magpies released a statement on Monday confirming that the former Liverpool boss would vacate his role when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Monk recently left his post as Birmingham City manager
and is the early 9/2 favourite to succeed Benitez.
Two former Arsenal midfielders find themselves in the mix with Mikel Arteta, who formed part of the backroom team that led Manchester City to their second consecutive Premier League, the 8/1 fourth favourite. Patrick Vieira is 11/1 having led Nice to a 7th place finish in Ligue 1 last season.
Two former Manchester United managers are also on the list of potential successors. David Moyes at 12/1 may prove a controversial appointment with a previous stint at Sunderland on his CV, while Jose Mourinho is already into 13/2 second favourite from 12/1 to make his return to the dugout in the North-East.
