Glorious Goodwood 2017 Day 1 Betting Tips – Niall Cronin

Glorious Goodwood and Galway combine today for a feast of racing and although the weather is doing its best to change the ground and inconvenience the chances of plenty, there are some solid looking bets on the cards.

Limato over the line
A drop in class in which Limato (3/1) will carry no Group 1 penalty should be enough to see him over the line in the Lennox Stakes today for Henry Candy and Harry Bentley.

The five-year-old had his excuses in Dubai, albeit the owner’s version of events were quite extreme, but the runs at Ascot and Newmarket since then have been good enough to say that he is running up a level good enough to win here and his price would look rather kind at 3/1.

Returning to seven furlongs can only be a plus for him and although Home Of The Brave has been in good form of late,

Limato should have too much class to come out on top.

Brave run expected in Cup
The ground won’t be ideal for Big Orange (Evens) but he should still claim his third successive Goodwood Cup. It’s been a fairly fruitful time for Frankie Dettori since he came back from injury and he gets back on Big Orange for this first renewal of the Goodwood Cup under Group 1 status.

Providing the rain doesn’t get too heavy, Big Orange should be able to get through it and in the form of his life he can back up that Ascot success.

Qewy could have ran well if there was firm in the ground but despite the two-mile on the flat being a concern for Wicklow Brave,

Willie Mullins’ Irish St Leger winner is expected to run a big race at 16/1.

Giving weight away to Rekindling the last day at the Curragh and only beaten by half a length was a decent effort by the Grade One winning jumper and expect him to outrun his odds in this race.
