Gosden’s Charge Enable To Pass Ascot Test

John Gosden’s Enable will take on the colts and older horses in what is a fascinating King George but she still looks the best around at the moment and ticks a lot of boxes.

Ready and Enable
Shortly after the Irish Oaks it had looked like the Yorkshire Oaks would be the next port of call for Enable but connections have made the bold, albeit probably right move to come to Ascot for the King George and not take on the older colts for the first time in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Enable is a short priced favourite now and she’s taking on one of the most durable and solid horses around at the moment, Highland Reel, who always seems to struggle to appeal to punters.

His younger brother Idaho is also a massive threat but Enable looks a cut above. The manner of her victories at Epsom and the Curragh were just so impressive and even though the standard here is raised, there has been nothing to suggest so far that Enable can’t up her game again.

Three times this season Aidan O’Brien has had three different fillies finish second to Enable, today it could be a colt that has to fill that role as Enable looks set to continue her winning ways.

A winner for the first time at Killarney in May, the son of Dream Ahead seems to be getting the hang of things now and was second with a decent effort behind Clongowes at the Curragh on Irish Derby weekend.

He’s certainly a horse that could prove to be absolutely thrown in here with his weight for age allowance and looks to be the most outstanding bet of the day.

Island Can Spark a Cheer at Newcastle
One horse at a price that did stand off the page today was Island Flame at Newcastle.

The course and distance winner has been a bit in and out of form this year and hasn’t won since getting up by a head in a lowly rated race here back in September. But a couple of glimpses of promise were thrown in since then and at his price of around 16/1, he looks capable of outrunning his odds under Sammy Jo Bell.

Richard Fahey’s charge did win off a mark of 70 in the past and is down to 69 now so could be worth taking an each-way punt on.
