Horse & Jockey Hotel Coursing Oaks 2019 – Preview

Ahead of the upcoming Horse & Jockey Hotel Irish Coursing Oaks we bring you everything you need to know about the 64 qualifiers.

Tramora Bliss (Adios Alonso- Clonreddan Molly) – January
Has appeared out three times since picking up her ticket in Liscannor. Beat in round two in the Bitch Stake in Ballyduff, the semi-final in Killimer Kilrush and round one in the Corn Na Feile Oaks. Form for her trial hasn’t worked great so she could have to improve significantly to challenge for this Oaks.

Rub And Tug (Adios Alonso-Lyrics) – April
Has only appeared out twice this season. Was always a leading fancy when picking up her trial stake in Kilflynn, clocking consistently through-out. Reached the semi-final of the Corn Na Feile Oaks (beating Aghadown Luna in round one and had a bye in round two). Beaten comfortably by Oaks jolly, Newinn Fifi, in the semi-final.

Ballymac Enya (Coolavanny Bingo-Ballymac Town) – May
Made a big impression when winning her trial stake in Glin. Looked to improve bundles when appearing back in the same field for the Galway & Oranmore meeting, had to be withdrawn out of the final of the bitch stake. Had to be withdrawn again out of the second round of the Corn Na Feile Oaks after clocking up fastest first go. Could be a big player!

Hollyhill Teresa (Adios Alonso-Derin Kerry) – March
Has also appeared out twice this season. Was favourite after round one of her trial stake in Ennis and won convincingly, but did disappoint somewhat in her next appearance in North Kilkenny. Form in Ennis hasn’t worked out great, a few well touted bitches who haven’t managed to make the main stage.

Déjà Vu (Razor Ashmore-Upup And Away) -February
We have only seen this well bred lady once this season. Looked to be well ahead of the pack in Tradaree. Four winners have came out of this trial stake. Could be one to keep an eye out for if getting a nice quarter.

Atlantic Fox (Mafi Magic-Atlantic Diva) – January
Won first time of asking in Regional for the Kiely team, was awarded the final following the withdrawal of Central Success. A few winners have come out of this stake. Appeared next in the Corn Na Feile where she was well beaten by Ballymac Enya in round one.

Maggs Fly (Howdododo-Corrupt Committee) – May
Has a lovely turn of early pace which proved decisive in the new field in Cashel. Caused a bit of an upset in the final when beating No Laughing. Met the same bitch in the first round of the Puppy Stake in Mooncoin where the result was reversed. Hard to make a case for.

Rush Ruth (Tullamoy Master-Joint Account) – March
Caused a shock when over turning Our Girl Adajio in the final in Fermoy. Has a couple of outings since picking up her ticket, Cappoquin, Rathcormac and Abbeyfeale. Only managed to raise one flag which was in Rathcormac. Westlimerickrose beat her in the opening round of the Corn Na Feile.

Isteachagusamach (Adios Alonso-Tobar Na Malt) – January
Was well fancied on debut by shrewd connections and duly obliged in Abbeydorney. Disappointed next time out in Lixnaw (beat in round one) and was entered in the Corn Na Feile but was withdrawn before coursing. Is bred for Clonmel, forgive her run in Lixnaw.

Crafty Cuckoo (Crafty Gonzalo-Drumcrow Adele) – February
Well punted on debut in Edenderry, won with ease. Her next two runs in Cappoquinn and Newcastlewest she bumped into two well experienced ladies (Domain Hope and Frankies Call) where she was over turned. Showed significant improvement in Mooncoin where she ran up the Puppy Stake to Boys Brigade. The betting suggests she is not the Kennels number one contender for the Oaks!

Westlimerickrose (Newinn Wonder-Blades Of Steel) – May
Was beat first time out in Tradaree, gained some much needed experience in defeat. Her next outing was successful in Loughrea (16). Ran in the Corn Na Feile where she reached the semi-final (beat Rush Ruth in round one and had a bye in round two). Was well beat by runner up, Crafty Perfecto, in the semi final.

Truthechairshaw (Coolavanny Bingo-Marshals Duchess) – April
Made her debut in this testing field in Crohane. Was favourite from the outset and looked to relish the hill. Appeared in the Corn Na Feile but went out in the opening round to the highly thought of Tailteann Speed. Should run better once she sees the hill in Powerstown Park.

Cheerful Blonde (Blades Of Hope-Heart Light) – April
We have seen plenty of this lady in public this season. Won second time of asking in Miltown Malbay, then appeared in the Bitch Stake in Rathkeale where she reached the semi-final. Her clocks were a good bit off Blades Of Honour. Was beat in round one of the Puppy Stake in Old Kilcullen (Heart Over Mind) and Corn Na Feile (Crafty Perfecto).

Hollyhill Moira (Crafty Gonzalo-Lone Ramble) – April
Reached the semi-final in Liscannor on debut (beat by winner). Made no mistake next time in Charleville, beat subsequent winner, Believetoachieve, in the final. Ran in the All Age Bitch Stake in Balbriggan but ran below par. Improvement needed.

Outcast Alonso (Adios Alonso-Rock Music) – April
Made her first public appearance in Regional where she was sent home after round one. Picked up her ticket next time out when winning a 16 bitch Trial Stake in Thurles. Was outsider the whole way through but was the one improving on her clock with each run.

Laurina (Blades Of Hope-Adios Belle) – April
Picked up her lodge car park pass on her first attempt in Ballinagar. Beat the well thought of Flagfield Hope (beat in four finals) in the final. Next time out she gave Oaks favourite, Newinn Fifi, an awful fright in the second round of the Corn Na Feile, leading her early Fifi had to pull out all the stops to win.

Cha Cha Matilda (Newinn Wonder-Moat Matilda) – April
Winner second time out for her owners, the McDaid-McManus-Foley Syndicate, who are having a season to remember. Beat first time out in round one in Ennis, took plenty from that outing and won impressively after in Castleisland. Could be plenty to come from this lady, any further improvement puts her right in the mix.

Tailteann Speed (Newinn Wonder-Blades Of Steel) – May
Made her debut in Tradaree where she was sent home after round one. Won comfortably next time out in Limerick City and went down into a few notebooks. Won her opening round of the Corn Na Feile but was again withdrawn out of round two. Bred for speed.

Jamaica Belle (Blades Of Hope-Adios Belle) – April
Was well punted on debut and won like a favourite should. Looked to be well ahead of the pack in every round. Came up against Newinn Fifi in Abbeyfeale and was far from disgraced. Don’t let that run put you off her, will appreciate the scenery in Powerstown Park.

Crafty Perfecto (Crafty Gonzalo-Drumcrow Adele) – April
Another lady well punted on debut in Galway & Oranmore (held in Glin). Looked to relish the long stretch. Reached the final of the Corn Na Feile Oaks clocking well along the way but had no answer to Newinn Fifi in the decider. Will have gained plenty of experience and remains a leading hope for the Oaks. Betting suggests she is the kennels number one contender for Classic Glory.

Newinn Fifi (Blades Of Hope-Newinn Gaga) – April
Two runs and two wins for this Owen McKenna trained runner. Romped through her trial stake in Listowel and was placed at the top of the market for the Oaks. Confirmed her place at the head of the betting when winning the Corn Na Feile Oaks, she looked as though she was doing the best of her running at the top of the field. Ticks all the right boxes and a worthy favourite.

Mungos Wren (Adios Alonso-Mustang Diamond) – March
Was always the underdog in her only appearance in Carlow (three winners came from this stake after) but got stronger with each run. Looked to relish the long stretch so is sure to like Clonmel. Improvement is needed however if she is to have any say in this classic.

Wave To Dave (Razor Ashmore-Tory Eille) – April
Winner on her third outing. Was beat in the third round on her first two outings in Kilflynn and Ballinagar. Claimed her ticket in Cavan with a convincing win, clocking best all the way. Breeding suggests she will love the hill in Powerstown Park.

Elegant Wonder (Newinn Wonder-Central Stardust) – May
Made her first public appearance in Tradaree where she was beat in the second round by the winner, Déjà Vu. Started off a strong favourite next time out in Ardpartrick and won independently. Hasn’t been seen out since but is likely to improve with age. Is a member of a strong Gerry Holian team.

Karasova (Mafi Magic-Ballymac Adelpha) – February
A member of a fantastic litter, she picked up her golden ticket in Ballyduff. Was beaten in the second round on debut in Kilfynn but improved for the run. Showed a terrific turn of pace from halfway up the field. Could be one to keep at the right side of on the main stage. Now under the care of Pat Curtain.

Mountfinn Bingo (Coolavanny Bingo-Linden Village) – April
Has appeared out three times so far. Beat in round one in Liscannor first time out before reaching the final in Crohane next time. Got her head over the line in Kilsheelan on her last outing where she overturned the hot favourite, Not Accepted. This lady is as tough as nails.

Could Be Lucky (Kyle Basil-Chubbys Vanilla) – January
Won first time of asking in Dungannon in a 16 runner trial stake. Next appeared out in the bitch stake in North Kilkenny where she was beat in round two by the eventual winner, Sydney Wish. Her clock in the opening round didn’t exactly blow you away, so improvement is needed.

Steam Queen (Mafi Magic-Atlantic Diva) – January
Made her debut in the reserve trial stake in Westmeath reaching the semi-final (beat by the winner). Next up was Freshford where she reached the quarter final (beat by Caoimhe Said who has since won a reserve in Borris-In-Ossary). Looked to be well ahead of the pack when winning in Enniscorthy clocking consistent through out.

Outstanding Lady (Blades Of Hope-Newinn Gaga) – April
Litter sister to the Oaks fav. Her first run was in Limerick City where she came up against the talented Tailteann Speed in round one, her next appearance was in Ardpatrick where she was sent home after round two. A much improved bitch turned up in Killimer Kilrush as she coasted through the trial stake (a few winners have since come out). Beat Tromora Bliss in round one of the Corn Na Feile and was taken out after.

Foxhollow Darkie (Razor Ashmore-Somelittlething) – January
Keeping up a good run for this Classic winning team of Nora Raleigh and Brendan Matthews. He first public appearance was in Tradaree where she reached the third round (beat by runner up). Was favourite from round one in Knockgraffon and won comfortably. This well bred lady will thrive in Clonmel.

Tailteann Steel (Newinn Wonder-Blades Of Steel) – May
Withdrawn out of round two of the reserve trial stake in Mitchelstown on debut. Ran out an impressive winner after in Rathkeale, showing a nice turn of early pace she put her courses to bed early. Hasn’t been seen out since.

Cardi Bee (Mafi Magic-Horgie Baby) – March
Only appeared out once this season which was in a 64 bitch trial stake in Doon. Clocked the fastest from the outset and won relatively easy. Gained plenty of experience in the six runs but might have to improve further to get involved.

Break The Habit (Vale View Flyer-Drumcrow Beca) – April
Has been kept busy this season. Made her debut in Abbeydorney (beat in round three by winner, Isteachagusamach), beat in round two next time in Galway & Oranmore (by the runner up, Skellig Whisper) and then it was onto Ballyduff where she was beat in the quarter-final. Claimed her Clonmel pass in Lixnaw on her final outing, looked to hold her clock in each round.

Go Ellie (Vale View Flyer-Take The Turn) – May
Beaten first go in Cavan on debut but took a lot of experience out of that run and won next time in East Donegal (beat the highly thought of Flagfield Hope in the final). Returned back to the field for the second Donegal meeting and was beat in the second round of the Bitch Stake by eventual winner, Bellinter Kerry.

Wynnie (Newinn Wonder-Rossmore) – July
A very popular winner in Bandon for the Linehan family. Showed a real liking for the rising ground in Bandon. Connections say she will come on a tonne. Being a July whelp, improvement should come naturally. Beaten on debut in the second round in Mallow.

Believetoachieve (Kyle Leigh-Missy Katie) – March
We have seen a fair bit of this lady. Was beat in the fourth round in Cashel on debut before running up in Charleville (to Hollyhill Moira). Another appearance in Ardpatrick came before she claimed her golden ticket in Glanworth (beat Tralee winner, Mannequin, in the final).

Skellig Shell (Adios Alonso-Skellig Babe) – January
Had two appearances in Miltown Malbay (third round) and Killimer Kilrush (first round) before winning in Urlingford. Was a big outsider in the final but managed to overturn the odds against Key Line. Looks to have stamina in abundance! Appeared out again in the Corn Na Feile but was beat in round one by Laurina.

Dooneen Cathy (Coolavanny Bingo-Barrick Milly) – January
Came up against Garbally Fire (beat in three finals this year) in round one in Listowel and was beaten, it was then on to Newcastlewest where she made no mistake. Was a slight outsider heading into the final but overturned the odds.

Gentstown Maria (Timber House-Long Drive) – March
Second qualifier from this litter. Has had a few outings this year, Cashel (reached the fourth round), New Ross (third round) and picked up her ticket in Gorey. Put in a saucy clock in the opening round in Gorey and coasted through the stake. Her latest run in the all age in Wexford was disappointing. Needs to really bounce back.

Aghadown Luna (Vale View Flyer-Bristol Lady) – March
Mitchelstown reserve winner gets into the draw in place of Sour Music. Has had three runs this year, beat in the second round in Mallow and won comfortably in Mitchelstown after. Headed to Abbeyfeale after for the Corn Na Feile but was beat in round one by Rub And Tug. Needs more improvement.

Try And Tryagain (Pocketrocketben-Vim And Vigour) – March
One run and one win for this John Flynn trained lady. Bred for early speed which she showed in abundance in Old Kilcullen. Won trial stake independently, it will be interesting to see how she handles the larger surroundings in Powerstown Park.

Samsara (Adios Alonso-Lyrics) – April
Beat in the semi-final on debut in Ardpatrick (by runner up, Cooneen Time). Went on to win next time in Dungarvan (held in the Cappoquin field). She looked to get stronger with each run and have no doubt the extra few yards in Clonmel will suit.

Quarrymount Kim (Central City-Quarrymount Dove) – May
Brings the famed Quarrymount prefix back to the main stage. Reached the semi-final on debut in Loughrea (beat by winner, Westlimerickrose) but had two disappointing runs in Doon and Ballyduff after. Her day in the sun came in Cappoquin where she proved to be a worthy winner.

Catch Kazuri (Newinn Wonder-Coshair Pallas) – April
First appeared out in a 16 reserve trial stake in Trim where she reached the semi-final (beat by the winner). Her next outing was a winning one in Castletowngeoghegan (16) in what looked a competitive looking trial stake. Interesting to see how she handles the longer stretch in Clonmel.

Lights Down Low (Kyle Basil-Shanballa Dawn) – June
Beat in the final of the working members in Cavan on debut before moving on to bigger and better things in Westport. She used the couple of runs in the Duffer as an advantage when taking this trial stake, further improvement is needed however.

Cornaflinn Red (Crafty Gonzalo-Glowing Ambition) – June
Beat in round one in her first two outings in Trim (by runner up) and Westport. The penny finally dropped for her in Roscommon, herself and the runner up here (Flagfield Hope) looked head and shoulders above the rest the whole way through the trial stake. Had to battle hard to get the flag in the final.

Go Jetter (Adios Alonso-Smokey Milly) -June
Her best performance before winning in Borrisoleigh came in Rathdowney where she reached the semi-final (beat by runner-up). Went joint favourite after one round in Borrisoleigh, won independently. Rushview Gold has since come out and won a trial stake in Clonakilty.

Mannequin (Coolavanny Bingo-Barrack Millie) – January
Was successful on her fourth attempt. Made the second round on her first two outings in Glin and Kilsheelan and reached the final after in Glanworth (Believetoachieve was the winner). The trial stake in Tralee looked above average, she held her clocks the whole way through.

Kingsmill Cat (Adios Alonso-Kingsmill Bound) – January
Has two victories to her name this season already. The first one came in Mallow where she picked up the reserve trial stake, showing a real liking to the hill. A below par performance followed this in Carlow but she was back on the bridle again in Mooncoin over Christmas claiming her full ticket.

Ironhill Lady (Coolavanny Bingo-Tynwald Joan) – April
Only seen out twice this season, beat in round one of a duffer in East Donegal on debut before victory in Dundalk. She done her best running on the second day in Dundalk which proves she’s a tough nut. More improvement is needed however if she is to throw her hat in the ring for the Oaks.

Haveaniceday (March Is On-Annual Time) – March
Three runs this year, beat in round one in Carlow first time out but then went on to win a little duffer in Old Kilcullen a few weeks later. These runs seemed to bring her on a tonne as she raced to victory in the trial stake in Balbriggan (run in Dundalk field). Her clocks were a nice bit off other trial stake winners on the day.

Saleen Julie (Blades Of Hope-Sand Sea Model) – May
Withdrawn out of the second round in Castleisland on debut, reached the third round in Ballyduff and second round in Killimer Kilrush on her next two starts. On her penultimate start she went all the way to the final in Bandon (Wynnie was the winner). She finally had her day in the sun in Abbeyfeale. Clocks on the day tell us she has a bit of catching up to do on the Corn Na Feile runners.

Still Amazing (Kyle Basil-Swing Rose) – May
Has had a few outings this season. Her best running before her trial stake win was in Ballinagar where she reached the quarter final. Was outsider of the last four in Wexford but proved she was no pushover as she caused a shock in the final. Improvement need to be involved in Clonmel.

Ashtown Adi (Adios Alonso-Curragh Time) – January
Got her lodge car park ticket on her fourth attempt in East Donegal. Started off the year in a bitch surplus stake in Castleisland then it was on to Ballyduff (beat in round two) and Killimer Kilrush (beat in semi-final by runner up). Was well fancied going into East Donegal and grinded out the victory.

Alvor (Newinn Wonder-Hi Five Yankee) – May
Four outings this season, ran into the winners at both Ardpatrick (round two) and Doon (round four) and was beat in round two in Limerick City. Clocked up quickest in every round in Galbally the best of which was in round two! A similar level of improvement can see her play a part in Clonmel.

Ballymac Ismay (Coolavanny Bingo-Ballymac Town) – May
Was late joining the party this season. Didn’t appear out until St Stephens day in Tralee where she ran into the winner, Mannequin, in round two. Gained valuable experience from that outing and absolutely skated up in Millstreet. She looked well ahead of the pack, her age suggests there is more in the locker.

Magical Hannah (Coolavanny Bingo-Magical Havana) – February
Wasn’t too far off the pace wherever she ran all year. Her best run before winning was in Ballinagar (beat in semi-final by the winner, Laurina). Really took to the long stretch in Templetouhy, had to pull out all the stops to win the first round but was well in command for the rest of the stake.

Rushview Gold (Blades Of Hope-Emmas Goldrush) – March
This lady has plenty of experience under her belt this season. Started off the season in The Regional finished off in Clonakilty. Her best run in between came in Dungarvan where she reached the semi-final (beat by winner, Samsara). Her running was impressive in Clonakilty where she clocked up with the All Age runners.

Gadget Vale (Vale View Flyer-Gadget Girl) – March
Took a while to find her feet but finally put it altogether at the Waterford meeting held in Sevenhouses. Showed a real liking for the extra few yards in Sevenhouses, was odds on heading into the semi-finals and never looked like getting beat. You always have to respect runners from the Matthews kennel.

Personal Opinion (Newinn Wonder-Jamica Jenny) -April
This lady has only been out four times this year but has some mileage put on the van! Started out in Cavan (beat in round 2), next to Balbriggan (semi-final) and then travelled down south to Dungarvan(beat in round two). She finally got over the line in what looked a red hot trial stake in Ballymena. Beat Flagfield Hope in the final (four runs this year and beat in four finals).

Skellig Princess (Adios Alonso-Skellig Babe) – January
Gets her place in the draw following the withdrawal of Central Success. Had three outings all season. First appeared in Miltown Malbay (in the all age bitch stake beat in round one). Next it was on to Roscommon where she made it to the semi-final (beat by the winner, Cornaflinn Red). Ran up to Central Success on her final appearance. Breeding suggests she will thrive in Clonmel.

Gaisce Bui (Newinn Wonder-Gaisce Mor) – February
This lady was well fancied heading into this hot trial stake in Tubbercurry, went off joint favourite. Had two outings before heading West, Abbeydorney and Castletowngeoghegan. Was leaving it late to get up in her courses which suggests she will love Clonmel. Her breed tend to excel when they meet the hill.

Ballinakill Gaga (Blades Of Fire-Newinn Gaga) – April
Only had the two runs this season. Reached the semi-final in Cappoquin first time out (beat by winner, Quarrymount Kim). Didn’t really come into her own until the second day in Sevenhouses, the further she went the better. The third qualifier from the litter, like her sisters she will love Clonmel.

Sminky Star (Newinn Wonder-Rossmore) – July
Started off her career in the inter-club stakes in Mallow reaching the semi-final. Had to be withdrawn out of the second round in Rathcormac on her second appearance, but showed no ill effects after in Dungarvan reaching the final (Samsara was the winner). Had to really be on top of her game in Macroom when collecting her ticket, the last four in the trial stake were all capable of winning.
