Ireland Eurovision Odds Slashed As Bambie Thug Books Sweden Ticket

Ireland Eurovision odds have been slashed after Bambie Thug was voted winner of Eurosong to represent Ireland in this year’s song contest.

Ireland Eurovision Odds Cut

Ireland are now 14/1 from 40/1 to go all the way in May’s Eurovision Song Contest after Bambie Thug was crowned champion on last Friday’s Late Late Show Eurosong Special.

With the winner chosen via a three-pronged approach including a public vote as well as national and international judges, it was Macroom-born Bambie Thug who booked their plane tickets to Malmö this summer, as they blasted out their ‘electric-rock’ style ballad Doomsday Blue.

With Sweden’s win in last year’s competition drawing them level with Ireland’s record haul of seven song contests, Bambie Thug will be looking to end Ireland’s long run of bum-notes. Ireland have qualified just once for the Eurovision final in the last nine years, with Ryan O’Shaughnessy the last act to fly the tricolour at the final in 2018.

2024 Eurovision Betting Favourites

With 37 countries set to battle it out for success in Sweden this summer, Iceland are the early joint favourites with BoyleSports at odds of 5/1 alongside Ukraine, in a wide-open betting market. Ukraine will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 6^th in Liverpool last year, having lifted the trophy in Turin in 2022.

Ireland’s nearest neighbour, the UK have chosen It’s A Sin star Olly Alexander to serenade the Swedes on May 11^th with the Years & Years singer a widely tipped 6/1 shot to end Britain’s 27 year losing streak. Already tasting plenty of success on the singing front with two UK number ones and charting across the continent, including in host nation, Sweden, Alexander is looking forward to branching out solo in Malmö.
