Ireland Second Favourites For Rugby World Cup

Ireland’s rugby heroes have been backed into second favourites to win the Rugby World Cup next year as they toast a blemish-free Six Nations campaign.

Joe Schmidt’s men were crowned Six Nations winners with a week to spare in this year’s tournament and sealed an historic third Grand Slam with a 24-15 victory over England at Twickenham on St. Patrick’s Day.

They were backed heavily in the World Cup market in the aftermath of the victory and are now 7/2 from 6/1 to win the tournament in Japan in 2019, with only 13/10 favourites New Zealand ahead of them in the betting.

Ireland have also leapfrogged England to become favourites to land two Six Nations titles in a row by defending their crown in next year’s tournament.

BoyleSports had installed the Irish as 5/2 second favourites, but trimmed their odds on two titles in a row, firstly into 13/8, and further into 5/4 as support piled in following the result at Twickenham. Ireland are 3/1 to pull off a second consecutive Grand Slam in 2019 with England 9/2 to hit back with one of their own.

Ireland will be feeling on top of the world after their Six Nations result at Twickenham and it goes to show how highly the side is now regarded that only the All Blacks are ahead of them in the betting for next year’s World Cup.

We’ve already seen a bit of patriotic interest in another Grand Slam at next year’s Six Nations…

so it’ll be interesting to see if the Boys In Green can dominate again before heading to Japan next Autumn.
