Ireland Supported To Book Eurovision Final Spot

Lesley Roy faces outside odds in her bid to end Ireland’s 25-year wait to win the Eurovision Song Contest, but she is being well backed to secure a place in the final in Rotterdam this week.

The Balbriggan native begins her Eurovision campaign on Tuesday in the first semi-final, a heat which also includes one of the outright favourites Malta, whose representative Destiny Chukunyere has already claimed top honours in the junior version of the event.

Ireland’s chances of making the final have been gambled into 5/4 from 2/1

…although the prospect of them adding to their hot record of seven victories in the contest remains remote at 150/1.

UK entrant James Newman is also amongst the outsiders at 100/1, but France have been heavily backed into 5/2 from 11/2 over the past week and are in pole position to go off favourites in Saturday’s final.
