Irish Rockers Fontaines DC Shorten For Mercury Prize

Mercury Prize 2019

Irish post-punk outfit Fontaines D.C. are being backed to scoop a coveted accolade just months after their debut album hit the shelves.

The five-piece post-punk rock band released ‘Dogrel’ in April to critical acclaim and now find themselves shortlisted for the Mercury Prize previously won by the likes of Primal Scream, Suede and the Arctic Monkeys.

With local support building for the rockers, we have cut their odds on winning the award at next month’s ceremony into 13/2 from 9/1,

…with just three acts now ahead of them in the betting.

Dave, the British rapper who stole the show at Glastonbury when duetting on stage with a reveller plucked from the crowd, is the 3/1 favourite for his debut offering ‘Pschyodrama.’

It’s another rapper Slowthai who sits as the 10/3 second favourite, with outside candidates including The 1975 and Foals, who are nominated for the third time for their 5th studio album ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 1.’
