Jaap Stam: Man United Don’t Need New Striker After Ronaldo Departure

Man United don’t need a new striker in the January transfer window despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, that is according to Jaap Stam.

The former Manchester United defender gave us his thoughts on who he thinks can lead the line for the Red Devils after the Portuguese star left the club.

Stam also weighed in on how Harry Maguire can translate his England form to club level and whether Jude Bellingham could opt for a move to Man City or Liverpool over Old Trafford.

There are a lot of promising players already at the club so if I were Manchester United, I wouldn’t spend money [on a new striker] yet.

Management of players all about telling them that they’re going to play and going to be starting and telling them that they’re going to be the main man so that the player gains confidence. You can see this is what has happened with Harry Maguire after his performances with England.

A lot of criticism has been directed towards Maguire at Manchester United and you can see that Maguire wants to show people what he can do and I think that’s why he’s making mistakes and getting himself in certain situations on the pitch.

I still think he’ll be very useful for Manchester United and he’ll have his moments. Maybe Ten Hag will use Maguire differently to how Southgate does, but the manager needs to give him confidence, that’s very important.

Jude Bellingham could choose Manchester United over Manchester City and Liverpool depending on what they were offering. He’s a really quality player. He’s good on the ball like Frenkie de Jong.

Everyone is looking for a player like Bellingham and Manchester United should go for Bellingham if they can’t get De Jong. Everyone is talking about Declan Rice and he’s a very good player as well but De Jong and Bellingham have a little bit more extra quality on the ball.
