Kempton Tips From Robbie Power For Coral Trophy Day

BoyleSports Horse Racing Ambassador Robbie Power gives his Kempton tips for the big races on Coral Trophy Day this Saturday.

Kempton 1.50 pm – Adonis Juvenile Hurdle Preview (Grade 2)

Kalif Du Berlais was very impressive when he won in Kempton earlier in the season. He’s come with a big reputation from France, he cost a lot of money and is seen as a Gold Cup horse in the future. But this is a deep race.

The Adonis is often a good trial for the Triumph Hurdle in Cheltenham and Givemefive is 2 from 2 for Harry Durham. Looks progressive. Off a mark of 126 would probably need to improve a little bit.

Peking Opera, who won in Sandown, was impressive on his debut over Hurdles for Gary Moore. We all know how strong Gary Moore is with juveniles, but Kalif Du Berlais should be winning. The danger to him? Possibly Peking Opera.

Tip: Kalif Du Berlais @ 10/11

Kempton 2.27 pm – Pendil Novices’ Chase Preview (Grade 2)

Yeah, the Pendil is an open race. A lot of these, they’ve all won over fences, but they’ve all been beaten on their last start. So they have a point to prove with the exception of ArcLight, whose form now reads very, very well. It was a good winner of a Mares chase in Exeter where she beat Marsh Wren. Marsh Wren has since come out and won a good novice chase in Thurles.

So that form looks very, very strong to me. She gets the mare’s allowance. I know there’s a little bit to find on ratings with a few of these, but she comes into the race in good form.

My preference would be for Arclight over Tahmuras for Harry Cobden and Paul Nicholls.

Kempton 3 pm – Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle Preview (Grade 2)

I thought Lump Sum had a very, very good run in Doncaster when 2nd only beaten by a length and a quarter by Jeriko Du Reponet. That’s strong form, he’s a big fancy of Nicky Henderson’s for the Supreme Novices. It’s definitely the strongest line of form of all these coming into us. And it’s definitely the one they all have to beat.

But Ben Pauling’s team are in mighty form at the moment and Fiercely Proud was beaten the last day on his last time out. Won his 2 before that, was 3rd in that race in Doncaster behind Jeriko Du Reponet, and only three-quarters of a length behind so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not a lot between Fiercely Proud and Lump Sum but my slight preference is for Lump Sum.

Kempton 3.37 pm – Coral Trophy Preview (Premier Handicap)

I think he’s going to find it difficult, Flegmatik. I know he won the last day, but he was just beaten by a neck in this race last year by Our Power. But comes in off a 5-pound higher mark, there’s nothing to suggest he’s a 5-pound better horse going into the race this time than there was last year.

I’d be taking on Flegmatik. I’m always very respectful of Christian Williams in these big handicaps. I know Cap Du Nord is getting on in years, but he’s off a career-low mark at this grade and I’d respect him each way.

But my fancy is for Il Ridoto. I know he has been beaten in some big handicaps on his last couple of starts all around Cheltenham. I just have a sneaky suspicion with his style of racing that this flatter track around Kempton is going to suit him. I think Il Ridoto deserves to win one of these big handicaps and Kempton might just suit him a bit better than Cheltenham.

Tip: Il Ridoto @ 8/1
