Kenny’s Odds To Become Ireland Manager Slashed

Support has snowballed for Stephen Kenny to be the next Republic of Ireland manager and as a result, he has closed the gap significantly in the betting on current favourite Mick McCarthy.

The Dundalk manager, who led the side into the group stage of the Europa League and has four league titles to show for his time at the County Louth club, opened up as a 6/1 shot to replace Martin O’Neill, who left the role after a meeting with the FAI on Tuesday night.

Kenny however has now been backed all the way into 2/1 and is now a close second favourite to former Irish manager Mick McCarthy, who remains the 8/11 favourite to resume the position he stepped down from in 2002.

Brighton boss Chris Houghton has been backed into 12/1 from 20/1 in the past 24 hours, while another to see support is Lee Carsley, who was capped 40 times by the Republic of Ireland during his playing career. The budding coach is now 25/1 from his opening quote of 40/1 on Wednesday.
