Kimberella Faces Judicial Test At Musselburgh

It is the calm before the Royal Ascot storm this weekend but it’s a significant afternoon for Musselburgh on Saturday with the Scottish Cup Sprint featuring on a seven-race card.

Unlucky last weekend at Epsom, Kimberella looks all set to be sent off favourite for the valuable five-furlong contest and you’d have to think that if he gets off a better break from the start and on a more straightforward track that the 9/2 favourite will be hard to beat. However, Judicial is a 9/1 alternative that makes appeal.

Maybe just before 4pm the 9/2 on offer for Kimberella will seem a massive price on the basis of what we saw last weekend but despite the step up in class I think Judicial can run a big race.

The four-year-old looks like he could still be improving for Julie Camacho.

And with the good underfoot conditions he really thrives on over the minimum distance, a race like this could well be within his range.

The Lee Westwood-owned Hoofalong could be up to taking a decent race this summer but this one looks out of his grasp at this stage unless you saw his odds of 14/1 plummet he might be best watched on this occasion.

Not Bad Consolation
Prior to the feature race the Scottish Tartan Trophy is the consolation race but there’s still over £25,000 going to the winner and that might just prove to be a nice pay day for owner Donald Wheatley whose course and distance winner Barnet Fair looks a nice prospect at 8/1.

Without a win in 17 starts, the eight-year-old wouldn’t be an obvious candidate for many reasons but he is back down to a winning mark now off 86 and at the very least represents each-way value in an open heat.

Obviously he could prove vulnerable to a better handicapped youngster who has yet to reach their peak but he’s battle hardened which could prove important here and worth taking a chance on.
