Athlone are flying with three wins in their last four league games and ten points in their last five matches. Last Friday they had a massive 1-2 win over Waterford which due to results elsewhere put them four points ahead of Wexford in fifth place.

Longford are the form side in the division with twelve points earned from their last five league matches as they look to make a late surge for a playoff place that seemingly looked very unlikely for the majority of the season.

A victory here along with results going their way would see them enter the final playoff spot as we get closer to the business end of the season.

Wexford currently occupy the final playoff spot having won seven points in their last three games and eight in their last five. That run was needed as Longford, Bray and Treaty are all still breathing behind them baying for blood if they slip up.

Bray has fallen by the wayside in recent weeks with five points in their last five league games. Their 1-3 victory over Kerry last Friday was much needed if their playoff hopes were to remain intact due to the form of the teams around them.

If Bray can pull off a shock victory in this one they will remain very much in the hunt for a spot, but a defeat could all but end their serious challenge.

Galway are fifteen points clear at the top of the table and with seven games remaining in the league season will want to wrap up the league title. They have been destined to win for weeks now and would be happy to secure the trophy as soon as possible.

Last Saturday though they faced their bogey team of the season Longford and lost 1-0 which means the league wonโ€™t be sown up for another extra week, seven points from their remaining seven games is all that’s needed to win the First Division.

Finn Harps v Waterford

Finn Harps drew 1-1 with Wexford last time out which means after a poor run of form they have two points from their last five league games. That sees them now four points behind Treaty who sit one place above them.

With seven games remaining in their league season, Harps must win to stand any chance of a playoff spot.

Waterford have suffered this season from being in constant purgatory, not good enough to challenge Galway but seemingly too good for the sides below them on the table. However, despite a likely playoff spot, their season (to me) is in danger of derailing with eight points in their last five league games.

I think their eye has gone off the ball and theyโ€™re not certainties by any stretch to win in the playoffs.
