Shamrock Rovers have gone from six wins on the spin to two defeats in a row to two defeats on the bounce.
The first of those two defeats came against Drogheda two weeks ago 1-2 and their most recent defeat was a 1-0 loss to Cork City in dramatic fashion after having three players sent off (probably wrongly) Ruairi Keating scored a dramatic winner, unfortunately, the game was clouded by off the field matters.
However, these two defeats show Shamrock Rovers aren’t quite as bulletproof as we might’ve thought but if they win on Friday and Derry don’t they will return to the top of the table again.
Dundalk last Friday Night were defeated 2-1 by bitter rivals St Patrick’s Athletic in the “Stephen O’Donnell Derby” which made it two defeats and a draw in Dundalk’s last three matches. Dundalk are one of this season’s curious cases as they seem to take two steps forward and then three steps back with their inconsistencies on the field.
That being said, a victory could bring them up to fourth and only one point behind Bohemians in third if results went their way. The Dundalk season is far from over.

Bohemians have dropped off in recent weeks with two draws, two defeats and just one win in their last five matches. Last Friday Night they faced Shelbourne at Dalymount and played out a 0-0 draw in which Bohemians dominated possession and hit the woodwork.
Despite their relative drop-off in form, they are still third on the table with a game in hand over Shamrock Rovers and Derry City, provided they won that game they would go level on points with Rovers and only one point behind Derry.
Sligo Rovers come into this match following their shock 1-0 victory against Derry last Saturday which ended their run of three defeats in a row and has eased some of the pressure on John Russell for at least another week. As the table begins to squeeze with Drogheda and Cork City winning two from their last two they will be looking behind them even more.
However, a win could bring them as high as fifth which shows how close the table is this season.

Drogheda started the season in flying form, then they faced a downturn in results while performances on the field remained decent. However, in the last two weeks, their form has begun to up-turn again starting with a 1-2 victory over Shamrock Rovers two weeks ago and they continued that last Friday Night winning 3-1 against UCD.
In their last game against Cork City, they drew 0-0 in Turners Cross where they offered very little going forward but the performance of teenage CB Emmanuel Adegboyega was notable. A Drogheda victory could bring them above Sligo Rovers into seventh and only three points behind Louth Rivals Dundalk in fifth.
Cork City are another out-of-form side who have begun to start putting results together in recent weeks starting with a 1-0 victory over Sligo Rovers two weeks ago. They continued that run of form with a dramatic 1-0 victory against Shamrock Rovers last Friday Night in what was one of the most remarkable matches of the season so far with Rovers having three players sent off (probably wrongly) Unfortunately the game was tarnished by off the field events.
However, with that win, Cork City remain nineth in the table 9 points clear of UCD in the tenth and five points off Drogheda a victory on Friday would close that to two points as we get closer to the summer break and transfer window.
Prediction
This’ll be an interesting clash, expect Drogheda to offer more going forward than they did in Turners Cross so instead of a 0-0 draw I think this will be a 1-1 draw.

UCD v St Patrick’s Athletic

UCD are bottom of the table with just the six points coming from their opening seventeen matches with their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Drogheda last Friday Night making it five defeats in a row for The Students.
With Drogheda and Cork City seeing an upturn in their fortunes these last two weeks, UCD will know they will need to start picking up points again sooner rather than later or relegation to the First Division seems a certainty.
St Patrick’s Athletic are in a nice run of form following their big 2-1 victory over Dundalk last weekend making it four wins and just one defeat in their last five matches.
Now permanent Manager Jon Daly will want them to continue this form on Friday and know that another victory could bring them up to third and in touch with Derry and Shamrock Rovers at the top which is impressive considering their poor start to the season.

Derry City are coming into this on the back of a shock 1-0 defeat from relegation-threatened Sligo Rovers on Saturday which ended their run of four wins in their previous four matches.
Many tipped Derry as potential title winners at the start of the season and albeit with only 18 games played they are currently top of the table one point clear of Shamrock Rovers and know a win on Friday will keep them at the top for another week at a minimum.
Shelbourne have a history with Derry, most recently back in April they lost narrowly 0-1 when Ryan Graydon scored a winner against their ten men. This was a repeat of the FAI Cup Final back in November which Derry comprehensively won 4-0 suggesting the teams could be closer in level now.
Shelbourne are difficult to beat but have struggled for wins with a record o two draws one defeat and just two wins in their last five games and no victories in their last two. However, they face a Derry team who could be fragile after their defeat to Sligo and despite home status play worse there. A victory for Shelbourne could bring them up to fifth and only two points off Bohemians in third place.
