Leona Maguire Odds Slashed For Major Championship Win In 2022

Leona Maguire has made a move up the betting to land a major championship this year after her historic maiden victory on the LPGA Tour at the weekend.

The Cavan woman went into the final round tied for the lead at the Drive On Championship in Florida, but carded seven birdies in a round of 67 to win by three shots, becoming the first Irish golfer to win a tournament on the LPGA Tour.

Now major honours are being eyed by Irish punters…

…meaning the odds on Maguire making a major championship breakthrough this year have been cut into 7/2 from 10/1.

Maguire isn’t the only Irish golfer being backed to make their mark in the majors this year after another promising display from Seamus Power on the PGA Tour.

The Waterford man shot a pair of 64s to race into a five-shot lead at the halfway stage of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am and while a disappointing weekend saw him slip down to 9th, Power has now posted three top-10 finishes this season.

That saw him climb to number 46 in the latest world rankings and keeps him on course for an invite to The Masters, with a major championship win now rated a 10/1 chance from 20/1 before he teed off last week.
