At 35 years of age Messi is certainly in the twilight of his career and is no longer the force he once was with Barcelona in his prime.

That being said Messi’s twilight is inarguably better than 99.99% of footballers. In 22/23 across his 40 Games for PSG he scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists. He remains a potential World Class asset for any club… So where is he likely to end up?

Al Hilal SFC – 11/8 Favourite To Sign Messi

While Messi has been long linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, the most likely suitor has always seemed to be Al-Hilal. There have been reports as recently as May that the club had already tabled him a 600 million offer. The club even had to come out and deny that they have an agreement with him already.

But Spanish Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has suggested that Saudi Arabian government officials are expecting Messi’s arrival and that Al-Hilal would be a possible destination. Furthermore, the club have already started selling Messi jerseys.

This is the “romantic” option, Messi spent 17 years at the club where he won 10 La Liga titles, four Champions Leagues, seven Copa del Rey titles and three FIFA Club World Cups. It seemed like he would never leave the club’s precarious financial position (coming from mismanagement along with Messi’s lucrative deal at the club) led to an emotional press conference as he announced his shock departure in 2021.

However, since his departure the club and Messi have constantly flirted with one another like old lovers about a potential emotional reunion. Barca manager Xavi has allegedly been in constant contact with Messi about a potential return. It makes no financial sense in my book but again, that’s probably why it could happen…

Beckham has been allegedly desperate to sign Messi ever since he founded Inter Miami in 2018 and if he lands his man it end up being the biggest deal in U.S. Soccer since Beckham joined LA Galaxy in 2012. There have even been reports that each MLS club could contribute to Messi’s salary to boost the league’s profile, according to a report in the Spanish publication Sport.

Messi owns a home in Miami, and he regularly takes his family on holiday there, so could be open to moving to Florida more permanently.

While Al Hilal remain the likely favourite, Messi could find himself with another team in Saudi Arabia particularly Al-Ittihad who currently lead the Saudi league. Messi’s links with the nation of Saudi Arabia have strengthened in years gone by with him being unveiled as the Middle Eastern nation’s latest tourism ambassador last year, and visiting the kingdom in March on official business.

Messi and PSG played a friendly against a Saudi league XI in January, reuniting him with an old foe and friend Cristiano Ronaldo. He might just fancy reigniting it one last time, or could we even see them as teammates?
